Ottawa is using AI mainly for governance and security, not for increasing transparency and public accountability

The federal government is prioritizing AI for governance, security and the economy rather than to increase transparency and public accountability, Trevor Potts at Evidence for Democracy says in a report. Ottawa's focus, coupled with reliance on American technology vendors, threatens data sovereignty, Canadians' personal data and public trust, especially as Canadians express growing distrust in government and AI, Potts says.
