Dr Donald Rix has teamed with MDS Inc to make a $4-million gift to the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Children's Hospital Foundation , marking the sale of MDS's medical diagnostics business in BC to the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). The gift provides $2 million each to the two institutions to support a lung cancer detection and translational research program at the BC Cancer Agency, and research into Huntington disease at the BC Children's Hospital's Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, headed by Dr Michael Hayden. Dix and MDS jointly owned MDS Metro Laboratory Services. It is a subsidiary of MDS Diagnostics, which was recently sold to OMERS. Rix is past chair of the BC Innovation Council, past chair of Genome BC and chair of Prionet Canada. Rix is active in angel networks in BC and across Canada….
