Venture capital investment down again in Q2/07

Venture capital investment in Canada experienced a year-over-year drop of 12% in Q2/07 to $426 million, with Ontario taking the biggest hit. Data released by Canada's Venture Capital & Private Equity Association show that Quebec fared best, with 71 firms attracting $149 million. Ontario managed just $131 million for 34 firms, down 35% from the $209 million invested in Q2/06. British Columbia ranked third with $112 million for 20 companies, down 13% from Q2/06. Foreign investors accounted for $122 million or 29% of the quarterly total. When added to their spectacular investment in Q1/07, the half-year total for foreign investment stands at $422 million. In comparison, Canadian VC firms invested $169 million abroad in the same period....
