Grand Challenges Canada makes $12 million in awards


Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) has announced 65 projects worth $12 million aimed at confronting a range of health problems that kills millions worldwide each year. The awards were made ahead of a Toronto global summit this week on maternal, newborn and child health, organized by the Government of Canada. Four Canadian-based projects received GCC funding matched by private and public partners. Seed grants (Stars in Global Health) worth $6.8 million were made to 35 innovators in Asia, Africa and Latin America and 26 Canadian-based innovators. Each is worth $112,000.
