Debbie Lawes has been appointed editor of Canada Research Horizons (CRH), a new quarterly magazine focused on federally funded and performed science and technology. Lawes joined CRH in September to oversee the magazine’s creation and is currently completing the first issue for release next month. Prior to joining CRH, she was publisher and managing editor of Decima Publishing. In the late 1990s, Lawes was senior editor at Evert Communications, where she had responsibility for the publication of six specialized newsletters including RE$EARCH MONEY. The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has made four new appointments to its 22-member governing council. Dr Marcel Boyer, president and CEO of the Centre for Interuniversity Research and Analysis on Organizations (CIRANO) and professor of economics at the Univ of Montreal. Boyer holds a PhD from Carnegie-Mellon Univ in economics. Dr Stan Shapson, VP research and innovation at York Univ and professor of education. Shapson has a PhD in psychology from York Univ. Dr Stuart Martin Taylor, professor of geography and VP research at the Univ of Victoria and an adjunct professor at McMaster Univ and the Univ of Waterloo. Taylor has a PhD from the Univ of British Columbia. Dr Catherine Wilson, professor of philosophy at the Univ of British Columbia. Wilson holds a PhD from Princeton Univ and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Several reappointments to SSHRC’s governing council are pending and will be announced in the coming weeks....
