Wireless consortium plans Hamilton hospital trials

A new Canada-US Wireless Technology Consortium (WTC) is set to begin trials at the Hamilton Health Sciences centre to test new clinical applications for handheld technology. The WTC was formed by Palm Canada Inc, Telus Mobility, Compuware Corp, NetManage and INET International to establish a virtual laboratory in Ontario to help establish international mobile Internet standards and improve medical information systems within 30-day cycles. As the lone Canadian firm in the Consortium, Telus Mobility is bringing to the table 2.5G iDEN technology that allows seamless transfer from wireless handheld devices to hospital servers. The WTC will work with radiologists in Hamilton and at other Ontario hospitals to test new mobile and wireless prototypes.
