The number and value of software acquisitions in Canada has fallen dramatically in the wake of slumping stock prices for high tech firms. The finding was contained in a survey conducted by CATA Alliance showing that the value of deals dropped from $6.1 billion in the first half of 2000 to $1.2 billion in the first six months of 2001.The trend reverses a lengthy period of increases which saw the value of mergers and acquisitions hit $11.4 billion last year.
