Wi-LAN licenses patent portfolio for $49 million

Wi-LAN Inc, Ottawa, has received $15.2 million in cash and $34 million worth of patents from Finland's Nokia Corp through its recently announced Early License Program. The agreement validates Wi-LAN's decision to exit the manufacturing business and focus exclusively on licensing its patents which underly a wide range of wireless technologies. These include CDMA, Wi-Fi, WiMAC and ADSL. The new thrust was executed with the arrival of James Skippen from MOSAID Technologies Inc, an Ottawa firm with a similar business model....
