Trottier donates $10M to Polytechnique Montreal

The Trottier Family Foundation has donated $10 million to Polytechnique Montreal to establish the Trottier Energy Institute which will take a systems and global approach to energy-related issues from technological, social and economics perspectives. The foundation — founded by Lorne Trottier, co-founder Matrox, a 37-year-old, Dorval QC-based developer and manufacturer of video card components and equipment for personal computers — made the donation as part of the Campus Montreal fundraising campaign involving Polytechnique Montreal, HEC Montreal and the Univ of Montréal. The new institute formalizes existing alliances between Campus Montreal members and McGill Univ, which received $15 million from the foundation last year to establish the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design and further endow the Trottier Institute for Science and Public Policy.
