New strategic framework developed for textile sector

Industry Canada is contributing $33 million over four years to help the apparel and textile industries become more innovative and competitive. The moves comes as Canada removed tariffs on apparel and textile imports from the world’s 48 least-developed nations. The funding is part of a new strategic framework for the sector, aimed at product diversification, development of niche markets, embracing e-commerce and enhancing global competitiveness. Firms are being encouraged to undertake innovative projects and refine and improve upon best practices.
