New genetics awards program announced

Three medical research organizations have banded together to launch a $1-million, six-year scholarship fund to build the research capacity of clinician scientists in genetics and genetic-related diseases. The Jessie Boyd and Charles Scriver MD/PhD Studentship Awards are funded by the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Genetics and the Canadian Genetic Diseases Network. The fund will provide eight scholarships to outstanding students enrolled in the MD/PhD program at Canadian universities. Each recipient will receive $20,500 annually for a maximum of six years. Applications are now being accepted. The awards are named after Jessie Boyd (McGill Univ graduate in 1922 and an active practitioner, academic and author) and her son Charles Scriver (a pioneer in the transition from traditional to gene-based medicine)....
