IBM acquires Toronto-based Platform Computing Inc

IBM Corp, Armonk NY, has purchased Toronto-based Platform Computing Inc for an undisclosed sum to boost its capabilities in the emerging high-performance computing sector. As an early entrant into the field of grid computing, Platform has seen success with its Load Sharing Facility software which allows information technology departments of companies to manage exploding data loads. The company was formed in 1992 by Univ of Toronto professor Dr Songnian Zhou, has more than 500 employees and estimated annual revenue of approximately $75 million. Platform was accepted into IBM's Grid and Grow program five years ago to ensure that its products are compatible with IBM products….
