Dr Michael Charles

Dr Michael Charles has been elected president of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) for a one-year term, succeeding Dr Axel Meisen whose tenure ended earlier this month. Charles is professor emeritus and dean emeritus of the Univ of Toronto's faculty of applied science and engineering. He served as dean of the faculty from 1999 to 2001. Charles is a chemical engineer with expertise in novel problems associated with pipeline transport of crude oils and particulate solids. He worked for the Research Council of Alberta and Imperial Oil before joining U of T. Charles has served on many boards of companies and organizations including three of the Ontario Centres of Excellence. He holds a BSc (engineering) from Imperial College in London and a PhD from the Univ of Alberta….
