Dr Axel Meisen has been appointed president of the Canadian Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for an initial two-year term. Meisen has spent 38 years in the post-secondary sector in Canada and abroad and served as president of Memorial Univ from 1999 to 2007. He currently serves as the inaugural chair in foresight at Alberta Innovates: Technology Futures (formerly Alberta Research Council). Meisen has been involved in many international projects funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, including the creation of a humanities-focused university in Peru and the introduction of cooperative education programs in Latin America….
