Sanofi Pasteur to construct $100-million facility

Sanofi Pasteur has announced a $100-million investment in its Toronto operations that will see the construction of a new research facility to accelerate its ongoing vaccine research activities. The Ontario government is contributing $13.9 million towards the project through the Biopharmaceutical Investment Program, the first fund established from the Next Generation of Jobs Fund. Construction of the 16,500-sq-m facility is projected to cost $80 million, with the remainder going towards equipment and new personnel. Sanofi Pasteur — the vaccines division of the Sanofi Aventis Group — will focus on pediatric combination, pneumococcal protein and cancer vaccines. Last year, Sanofi Pasteur spent $105.4 million on R&D in Canada while the Canadian branch of its parent firm spent $76.9 million....
