RIM ranks 8th globally for wireless telecom patents

Research in Motion Ltd (RIM) ranks 8th in the world in the number of telecom patents granted, according to the latest data from Thomson Reuters. The report — Innovation Hot Spots IP Market Report: Mining Patent Data for Tomorrow's Breakthroughs — shows that the Waterloo-based maker of the Blackberry has 433 patents granted, just one behind 7th-ranked SK Telecom Co Ltd of South Korea. Topping the ranking is Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (1,041), Microsoft Corp (534), Nokia Corp (515) and LG Electronics Inc (513)....
