Canada`s former science minister under the short-lived government of Joe Clark passed away in Montreal on February 11 at age 81. Heward Grafftey, a long-time Progressive Conservative MP from the Quebec riding of Brome-Missisquoi, was initially asked to assist the Minister of National Health and Welfare in respect to social programs. He was then appointed Minister of State for Science and Technology on October 8, 1979 succeeding Ray Hnatysyn (who also held the energy, mines and resources portfolio). Grafftey`s tenure as science minister lasted just five months until March 1980 when Clark's Progressive Conservative government fell to the Trudeau Liberals....
