Memorial completes new offshore R&D centre

Construction of the Suncor Energy Offshore R&D Centre at Memorial Univ has been completed, allowing its faculty of engineering and applied science R&D to grow by $6 million to $8 million annually over the next five years and engage 100 full-time equivalent researchers. The 1,320-square-metre expansion to the Memorial's engineering building was funded with $4.8 million from the province's Research & Development Corp and $2 million from Suncor Energy, through a 2011 donation made to Memorial's Dare To fundraising campaign. The facility will house collaborative space for faculty, graduate students to conduct ocean- and offshore engineering-related R&D projects in collaboration with local and global companies….
