ICT mentoring program launched in BC

A new hands-on mentoring program for information and communication technology (ICT) has received nearly $2.9 million to strengthen technology commercialization in British Columbia The Technology Commercialization and Graduate Entrepreneurship Foundation — also known as The Alacrity Foundation — received $2.5 million from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia through the Western Economic Partnership Agreement, with another $440,000 coming from the Univ of Victoria and MITACS Accelerate Program. The Alacrity Foundation was created by the Wesley Clover International Corp and is modelled on similar initiatives in Ontario and the UK. The program will enlist teams of post-secondary and recent graduates to work on specified projects. Those that develop products with strong market potential will be incorporated into jointly owned companies and receive start-up funding from Wesley Clover, headed by Terry Matthews.
