Dr Veena Rawat has been appointed president of the Communications Research Centre after serving in an acting capacity for the past 20 months (R$, November 9/04). Rawat joined the CRC as its executive VP in March/03 after a 28-year career at Industry Canada where she rose to deputy DG spectrum engineering. Internationally renowned as an expert in telecommunications management, she has served on many organizations and technical committees throughout her career. Migrating to Canada from India in 1968, Rawat was the first woman to graduate from Queen's Univ with a PhD in electrical engineering and has been repeatedly recognized for her work to encourage women to pursue careers in science and engineering....
