Dr Martha Piper has been appointed chair of the board of trustees for the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), effective April 1st. She replaces founding chair Preston Manning. Piper has had a long career in the university sector as president and vice-chancellor of the Univ of British Columbia (1997 to 2006) and VP research at the Univ of Alberta (1993 to 1997). For government, Piper has served on several advisory and agency boards including the Advisory Council on Science and Technology and the National Advisory Board on Science and Technology.
