Dr Fred Gault has been appointed a visiting fellow at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) for a one-year term. Gault joins the IDRC after a 24-year career at Statistics Canada in charge of the Science, Innovation and Electronic Information Division and its precursors. As a visiting fellow, he will assist the Centre in strengthening ties to the OECD and participate in efforts to assist developing countries in formulating science, technology and innovation indicators, with a particular emphasis on Africa. He will also continue working with the OECD on the development of an innovation strategy. Gault will be replaced at StatsCan by Paula Thomson, a veteran employee of the agency. Thomson was most recently assistant director of StatsCan's distributive division….
