Dr Louise Dandurand has been appointed president of the Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS). Dandurand is a veteran administrator who has held key positions several major research and higher education organizations including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (secretary general and acting president), Univ of Quebec at Montreal (VP research, VP strategic and financial planning), Concordia Univ (VP research and international relations) and most recently Fonds québécois de la recherché sur la société et la culture (president and CEO). Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions has appointed Dr Cy Frank as its CEO, replacing Dr Frank Magnan. Frank is an expert in the field of bone and joint research and surgery and has held a number of senior positions over his career. These include scientific director of CIHR's Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute, Alberta Health Services and Univ of Calgary. He joins AIHS as it as it begins to roll out new funding opportunities, programs and partnerships over the next several months. In 2009, he chaired an expert panel of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences which produced an influential report on measuring returns on investments in health research (R$, January 22/09). AIHS also announced the promotion of Dr Pamela Valentine as its new COO. She will also serve as acting CEO until the arrival of Frank on April 1st….
