Climate change dominates G-8 science ministers meeting

The joint statement by the G-8 science ministers says greenhouse emissions should be limited to the net absorption capacity of the plant by 2050, which represents less than half of current emissions. The first ever meeting of the science ministers concluded June 9 in Okinawa Japan and generated statements on several key climate change issues including the urgent need for carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies and improved predictive and adaptation capacities from local to global in scope. The ministers want a timetable, funding and coordinated plan for CCS technologies in place by 2009.
