The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has announced the winners of its Leaders Opportunity Fund. Of the $39 million in awards, $32.6 million went to 207 research projects. The remaining $6.5 million was awarded under the Infrastructure Operating Fund to assist institutions with costs associated with the new projects. Ontario received the largest share ($14.2 million) for 89 projects, followed by Quebec (41/$8.1 million), British Columbia (23/$2.9 million) and Alberta (11/$2.4 million). At the institutional level, the Univ of Toronto led the pack with 16 awards worth $4.4 million. It was followed by McGill Univ (16/$3.5 million) Univ of Western Ontario (8/$1.6 million), York Univ (8/$1.6 million), Univ of Calgary (5/$1.5 million) and Univ of Guelph (9/$1.5 million).
