CFI announces first awards under LOF program

The Canada Foundation for Innovation has announced the recipients of its first competition under the Leaders Opportunity Fund (LOF), which replaced the New Opportunities and Career Awards funds. Designed to attract and retain top-flight researchers, the competition awarded $19.7 million to 145 investigators at 35 institutions. A further $3.9 million was awarded under the affiliated Infrastructure Operating Fund to assist universities with incremental and maintenance costs associated with the projects supported by the LOF. Researchers at the Univ of Toronto received $2.4 million for 12 projects, followed by Univ of Montreal ($2.1 million/9); Univ of Western Ontario ($1.7 million/7); Univ of British Columbia ($1.6 million/14); McGill Univ ($1.4 million/9); and Univ of Ottawa ($1.3 million/12)....
