Acting on Health: Reimagining Canada’s Promise
3-4 June 2026, Ottawa
For 25 years, Research Money’s annual conference has brought together innovation leaders to challenge assumptions and shape the future. In this, our milestone year, we will unite entrepreneurs, researchers, communities of practice, investors, policy makers, health practitioners, patients, and youth for action-oriented conversations to focus on one powerful idea that health outcomes and economic prosperity are interdependent. This is a lesson from the COVID-19 pandemic that we must revisit. With national healthcare spending at over 12% of GDP, few sectors hold more potential than health and life sciences to create opportunity, resilience, and prosperity for Canada’s future.
Canada has world-class research, trusted health institutions and strong talent. Yet we continue to fall short in transforming these assets into commercial success, system renewal, and improved health outcomes. For those entrepreneurs succeeding despite these challenges, it’s not clear they will be able to remain in Canada as they scale. The talented people in our health institutions and life sciences sector also face misaligned policies, practices, and decisions that hinder their ability to adapt nimbly to major systemic changes.
We will explore how to transform along two key areas. First, health as a catalyst. The Canada Health Act is a defining part of our national identity, promising universal health care. How can we fully deliver on that promise and keep pace with unprecedented systemic change? What creative solutions are developing around the country and internationally? Second, research and innovation with purpose. How do we translate Canada’s global leadership in health and life sciences research into better economic and health outcomes? What can we learn from jurisdictions that are meeting this challenge?
Canada stands at a pivotal moment. As global alliances and traditional economic anchors shift, our sovereignty, security and future prosperity depend on bold strategies that turn national strengths into competitive advantages. It is time for Canada to finally recognize and leverage our strengths, dismantle barriers, and become a global leader in health and life sciences, generating resilience, prosperity and enviable health outcomes.
