TRLabs and China Railway sign development agreement

TRLabs, Edmonton, has signed an agreement with China Railway to bring broadband wireless services to railway passengers. TRLabs will be the technology partner in the China Railway Digital Information Systems Project, being undertaken by China Railways subsidiary China Railway Television Media Co Ltd (CRSTV) and Pacific Telecom & Networks Ltd. The first, year-long phase will focus on developing and implementing a prototype railcar system to deliver TV and videos, voice over IP, Internet access and value-added services such as games, shopping and banking. The project stems from an MOU for scientific and technological cooperation, signed by Alberta premier Ralph Klein during a June/04 visit to China. CRSTV plans to implement the prototype through the China Railway system with start-up and operational costs estimated at US $3.6 billion....
