Sonic raises $7.2 million for PCB destruction plants

Sonic Environmental Solutions Inc, Vancouver, is on track to finish construction of its PCB destruction facilities in British Columbia and Eastern Canada after raising $7.2 million in a private placement. The financial syndicate is led by Haywood Securities Inc, and includes Research Capital Corp and Pacific International Securities Inc. Sonic is commercializing a patented platform technology that uses sonic energy (Sonoprocess) to extract and destroy PCBs in soil, as an alternative to incineration. The company has already spent $8 million to date to develop and test its technology. In related news, Dr James Hill has been named VP R&D for additional applications and chair of Sonic’s technical advisory board. Hill is the former president and CEO of BC Research, a government R&D facility that he helped to privatize. He also helped create and spin-off several successful technology companies, including Celfor, Azure Dynamics and Radient Technologies. Hill holds an MBA from Simon Fraser Univ and a PhD in fluid dynamics from the Univ of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK.
