Sask Party pledges innovation box incentive

The Saskatchewan Party led by premier Brad Wall is committing to the creation of a patent or innovation box incentive if re-elected in the April 4 election. The party is pledging to establish the Saskatchewan Commercial Innovation Incentive that would lower corporate taxation from 12% to 6% on income earned from the commercialization of patents in new products by provincial-based firms. If implemented, it would be the first such incentive scheme in North America. The concept of a patent box has been endorsed by the CD Howe Institute, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters and the Jenkins Expert Panel in its Review of Federal Support to R&D report.
