MDS Nordion sells off two product lines

Ottawa-based MDS Nordion has sold its beam therapy and self-contained irradiator product lines to Best Medical International Inc, Springfield VA for an undisclosed amount. The move is part of the company's strategy to focus on molecular medicine. The two product lines sold to Best generate $32 million in revenue and support approximately 150 employees. Best will take over one of MDS Nordion's three buildings located in Kanata ON.... In other news MDS Nordion has warned that it will lose up to $9 million in revenue from the sale of medical isotopes in Q08-1 due to maintenance delays at a nuclear reactor in Chalk River ON. The National Research Universal (NRU) reactor — owned and operated by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd — is undergoing an upgrade of the electrical back-up system to address a regulatory issue. MDS is seeking to make up the shortfall through alternate suppliers….
