ITAC pushes for fibre links at border

The Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) is urging the federal government to link Canada’s 113 border crossings to the US with a fibre optic network to provide high bandwidth capability for processing large volumes of information. The recommendation was made to Industry minister Alan Rock by ITAC’s strategic infrastructure committee, headed by Bernard Courtois, executive counsel to Bell Canada. The network could also be extended to ports and airports. In addition to providing new, integrated communications capabilities at Canada’s exit and entry points, it would also provide work for the industry which is currently experiencing a significant downturn….
