The International Consortium on Antivirals (ICAV) has received $2 million in seed funding to establish its international headquarters at Trent Univ in Peterborough ON. ICAV will use the funding to establish the headquarters and leverage other sources of funding nationally and internationally. Founded following the 2003 SARS crisis, ICAV aims to identify new antiviral compounds and help researchers test existing drugs for new uses. It has already secured a commitment from the French government and is hoping to raise about $56 million from public Canadian sources (R$, May 18/05).
