Dr John Bagger

Dr John Bagger has been appointed director of Canada's TRIUMF national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics effective July 1st. Bagger comes to the Vancouver-based lab from John Hopkins Univ where he was a professor, vice-provost for graduate and postdoctoral programs and interim provost. He arrives following the recent Budget announcement that TRIUMF's new strategic plan has been funded at $222 million over five years beginning in FY15-16 (R$, February 24/14). Bagger's personal research focuses on high-energy physics at the interface between theory and experimentation. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1977 and obtained his PhD in 1983 from Princeton Univ. He accepted a postdoctoral research position at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre and was an associate professor at Harvard Univ until 1989. Over his career he has sat on the boards of many big science facilities in the US.
