Cogent acquires DSP technology from SFU

Vancouver’s Cogent ChipWare Inc is acquiring digital signal processing (DSP) technology from Simon Fraser Univ (SFU) to strengthen its position in the voice communications over data networks market. The agreement will see ChipWare take possession of the relevant intellectual property covering patents, computer architecture, microprocessors, memory and software tools for system-on-a-chip applications. The first products are semi conductor chips for packet-based voice processing. ChipWare is a fabless semiconductor firm and is a spin-off of SFU. The university maintains an equity position in the company….
