China & Canada sign S&T pact, cooperation agreements

Canada and China have issued a joint declaration on S&T and signed seven agreements for cooperation on nuclear energy, transportation and food safety. The S&T declaration calls for a joint complementarity study to identify areas of research in areas such as climate change and sustainable energy. The study will include recommendations for stimulating expansion of bilateral R&D relationships and other factors impacting on enhanced collaboration. An MOU on health research between the Univ of Ottawa Health Research Institute and the Chinese Academy of Sciences will establish research links in reproductive health and other areas to be determined. An MOU was also signed between Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd and the China National Nuclear Corp that will see R&D collaboration on advanced reactor systems, safety and design codes and sustainable fuel cycles....
