Canada and India formalize S&T agreement

Canada and India have entered into a formal S&T agreement, following Canada’s decision to spend $6.75 million on collaborative R&D over the next five years through the Canada-India R&D and Innovation Program (R$, October 3/05). The pact is a legal entity that aligns with CAN-Trade, the $485-million, five-year international commerce strategy announced in the Economic Update. The agreement will ultimately support scientific exchanges, joint S&T projects among business, government and academic researchers in nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and renewable energy and earth sciences.The agreement was signed in Ottawa between International Trade Canada minister Jim Peterson and Kapil Sibal, India’s minister of state for Science and Technology and Ocean Development….
