Three original NCE Knowledge Mobilization networks renewed through to 2019

The three original Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Networks have been renewed for another three years with funding of $400,000 per year for a total of $3.6 million. The smallest initiative under the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) banner, KT-NCEs do not conduct original research but seek to maximize impact by assembling and disseminating existing basic research into society.

All three renewed networks — TRanslating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (TREKK), Winnipeg, Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network (PREVNet), Kingston, and Children and Youth in Challenging Contexts (CYCC), Halifax — are all strongly social science-focused. They were launched in 2011 and the new funding will support them through to 2019. There is no intention at this time to extend them further.

KM-NCEs pull together research teams and receptor communities to support collaboration between academia, industry, government and not-for-profit organizations. The unique partnership model has been recognized internationally as a cost-efficient and effective mechanism for leveraging social and economic benefits from academic research and local communities of practice.

TREKK is implementing a three-stage plan for increasing the knowledge and skills of health professionals when dealing with very ill and injured children by sharing knowledge resident within emergency departments, children's hospitals and academic institutions.

PREVNet graduated from the former NCE New Initiative pilot program and has assembled an extensive national network dedicated to provide safe environments for children free from bullying and violence.

CYCC is also focused on youth but with an emphasis on promoting research, best practices and local knowledge to develop mental health programs for vulnerable and at-risk individuals. It maintains a web-based database where young people and organizations can go for help.
