TCAG receives $5.1 million in Genome Canada funding

The Centre for Applied Genomics (TCAG) has been awarded $5.1 million in Genome Canada's Science and Technology Innovation Centre competition. The funding was made through the Ontario Genomics Institute (OGI) and is one of several awards made by Genome Canada, which is allowing recipient institutions to make their own announcements. The size of the competition was $24.8 million and several other institutions were successful. TCAG is based at The Hospital for Sick Children and located in the MaRS Discovery District. The funding will be used over two years to support its data handling and analysis activities that take advantage of Sick Kids' high-performance computing facility and has developed a database for genomic variants. Since it was first funded by Genome Canada in 2001, TCAG has provided services to more than 1,600 labs in 33 countries, more than 230 academic institutions, 73 companies and 53 government and non-governmental entities. TCAG is led by Dr Stephen Scherer….
