SDTC awards $53 million to 16 projects

Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) has announced the results of the thirteenth round of its SD Tech Fund with 16 projects winning a total of $53 million. The projects represent the five priority areas identified in SD Business Cases reports published by SDTC. They target clean economic sectors the hold the greatest commercial and environmental potential: clean conventional fuels, renewable electricity generation, renewable fuel — biofuels, renewable fuel — hydrogen and eco-efficiency in commercial buildings.

To date, the SD Tech Fund has awarded $376 million to 154 projects and leveraged an additional $905 million for a total investment of $1.3 billion. A fourteenth round was launched February 25 with a call for statements of interest.

The lead companies and economic sector of the 16 projects are: Alterna Energy Inc, Prince George BC (forestry); AUG Signals Ltd, Toronto ON (energy utilization); dPoint Technologies Inc, Vancouver (energy utilization); EcoSynthetix Inc, Milton ON (forestry); General Fusion Inc, Burnaby BC (power generation); Greenfield Ethanol Inc, Toronto (energy exploration and Production); Innoventé Inc, St-Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC (waste management); Integran Technologies Inc, Toronto (energy utilization); Nexterra Energy Corp, Vancouver (power generation); Paragon Soil and Environmental Consulting Inc, Edmonton (agriculture); Performance Plants Inc, Kingston (agriculture); REGEN Energy Inc, Toronto (energy utilization); SunCentral Inc, Vancouver (energy utilization); SyncWave Systems Inc, Pemberton BC (power generation); TROPE DesignResearch Ltd, Halifax (energy utilization); Vive Nano, Toronto (energy utilization).

In other SDTC news, the Mississauga ON-based Pressure Pipe Inspection Co (PCCP) has received $800,000 in follow-on funding for its Pipe Driver project. The project is developing pipeline inspection technology for pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe used to transport water. PCCP previously received $400,000 from SDTC for the Pipe Driver project and $500,000 for water pipe leak detection technology. FMI: www.sdtc.ca.
