Liberal leadership contender Bob Rae has unveiled key planks of his campaign platform that include support for increased funding to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and a national research and innovation strategy. Rae says a "cornerstone for the health care system needs to be high-quality research funded through CIHR, adding that the funding should be on a "predictable basis". His call for a new strategy focuses on the need to involve all stakeholders and that "Ottawa should be a full partner in supporting the base operations of colleges and universities and priorities for labour market training, apprenticeship, research and graduate education."
