Newfoundland supports offshore fisheries R&D

Newfoundland's latest Budget is providing $2.6 million for its Marine Institute Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER) to continue its offshore fisheries research programs. Much of the research will be conducted aboard the RV Celtic Explorer, a research vessel leased from the Galway-based Irish Marine Institute for one month each year.The province has spent $15 million since 2010 on CFER to conduct research into stock assessments and sustainable fisheries, ecosystem structure and change, climate and fisheries influences and species biology, ecology and behaviour...
