Ken Knox has been appointed chair of the Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC), replacing inaugural chair Dr Howard Alper who has served since its inception in 2007. Knox — a former DM Energy, Science and Technology and DM Agriculture in the Ontario government under former premier Mike Harris — was appointed to the part-time position for a period of three years, effective April 30th. He also headed the Ontario Innovation Trust, an arm's length organization created in 1999 to administer several research funds on behalf of the provincial government (R$, December 11/03) Knox has extensive experience leading other Ontario-based organizations such as the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, Ontario Genomics Institute and the Innovation Institute of Ontario. Since leaving government, he formed a management consulting firm (Knox Innovations Inc.), providing strategic advice to a host of S&T organizations including the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, Ontario Science and Innovation Council, Ontario Bio Council and the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre….
