Hydro-Québec invests in waste energy technology

Hydro-Québec CapiTech has joined with three partners to invest US$2.5 million in Solena Group, a Washington-based firm that develops and markets a plasma reactor for generating energy from municipal waste. In addition to Hydro-Québec, the investors are Ontario Power Generation, Detroit Edison Development and Ocean Lines Ltd. Solena Group has developed plasma gasification and vitrification (PGV) technology. It eliminates waste without polluting emissions and recovers released methane gases to produce synthesis gas, which can be used to power gas turbines for electricity or for producing hydrogen and methanol....
