Federal government should support basic research: poll

A new national poll shows that 92% of Canadians agree that the federal government should support basic research. Canada Speaks 2015 also found that respondents are more likely to vote for candidates in the upcoming federal election who support increased funding for health care and health and medical research. The poll also found that 80% of Canadians agree that the federal government should support tax and regulatory policies encouraging private industries to conduct more medical research. The poll — previously conducted in 2006 and 2009 — is supported by seven national and provincial organization with Research Canada acting as the lead partner. They are urging Canadians to use Facebook, Twitter and hashtag #RESEARCHmeans to demonstrate their support for health research....
