Emera Inc is funding a new research chair at the Univ of New Brunswick to further development of smart grid technologies and provide direct funding for research. The Emera Chair in Smart Grid Technologies adds to the expanding research expertise in smart grid technologies at UNB, centred at the university’s Sustainable Power Research Group. It will attract world class expertise and engage in teaching and research, as well as building partnerships and providing research leadership. UNB is a founding partner of the Smart Grid Innovation Network and the Emera and NB Power Research Centre for Smart Grid Technologies, launched last month with $6.2 million from Emera. Halifax-based Emera invests in electricity and gas generation, transmission and distribution and utility energy services with a strategic focus on transforming from high carbon to low carbon energy sources.
