Dr Xiao-Gang Wen has been recruited to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) as the inaugural holder of the BMO Financial Group Isaac Newton Chair in Theoretical Physics. Wen comes to Waterloo from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge MA, where he held the Cecil and Ida Green Professorship in Physics. The chair, endowed with a $4-million contribution from BMO Financial Group, is matched by funds from Perimeter's existing endowment. It is expected to attract additional funding partners. The Isaac Newton chair is the first of five planned chairs which will be named after scientists who defined modern physics.
