Dr Tom Brzustowski has been re-appointed to a second five-year term as president of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), effective October 1 when his initial term expires. Although it was not immediately clear how long the appointment was for, it has been confirmed that the term is for five years. Brzustowski has enjoyed a long and distinguished academic career since graduating from Princeton Univ in 1963 with a PhD in aeronautical engineering. After a 25-year career in the mechanical engineering department at the Univ of Waterloo, he served in the Ontario government with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities and the Premier's Council until 1995. The same year he was appointed NSERC president and subsequently helped wage a largely successful campaign to have the Council's budget restored after cuts related to federal Program Review....
