Dr Richard Florizone has been appointed president of Dalhousie Univ, replacing Dr Tom Traves who is stepping down after an 18-year run. The appointment is effective July 1/13. Florizone comes to Dalhousie from the Univ of Saskatchewan where he is VP finance and resources. He is currently on secondment to the Washington DC-based International Finance Corp (a member of the World Bank Group) as a senior advisor on public-private partnerships. Florizone has had a varied career in academia, government and business. Past positions include director of strategic initiatives at Bombardier Aerospace and senior corporate liaison officer at Cambridge Univ. He has also served as a policy fellow at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, chair of the Uranium Development Partnership created by the Saskatchewan government and sits as a board member of the Institute for Public Policy and the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology.
