Dr Pascal Spothelfer has been appointed president and CEO of the British Columbia Technology Industry Association (BCTIA), replacing Rob Cruickshank. Spothelfer was most recently president and CEO of Spectrum Signal Processing (now Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima, following its May/07 takeover by Vecima Networks Inc, Victoria BC). He has also served as senior VP strategic development for Teekay Shipping and COO, president and CEO of NovAtel Inc, a Calgary-based developer of global positioning systems. Spothelfer holds a Master of Law and a PhD in law from the Univ of Basel and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainbleau, Franceā¦.
The Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics has appointed Dr Robert Myers as its interim scientific director, temporarily filling one of the positions left vacant by the resignation of Dr Howard Burton (R$, May 31/07). Myers holds a PhD in physics from Princeton Univ. He was a professor of physics at McGill Univ from 1989 until 2001 when he joined the Univ of Waterloo and Perimeter, where he was a founding member. An executive search for a permanent scientific director is ongoing. In other news, Dr Leonard Susskind has joined Perimeter as an associate member.
